UPDATED: 9:30 p.m.  10/16/2014

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The McHenry County man suspected of wounding two sheriff's deputies early Thursday when they responded to a disturbance call was captured after a daylong manhunt involving more than 250 officers, authorities said.

Scott Peters, 52, was taken into custody around 5 p.m. near Illinois Route 176 and Smith Road, in unincorporated Crystal Lake, after police received two separate calls about a suspicious person, the McHenry County Sheriff's Department said. He was captured without incident.

Chopper 2 observed authorities leading a shackled Peters into jail. He has been charged with attempted first-degree murder and is being held on $1 million bond.

Police were called to Peters' home around 1:30 a.m. after receiving a call about a disturbance there. The call came from outside the home, police said.

Peters apparently shot at the officers has they arrived at the residence, in the 1300 block of West Northeast Shore Drive, police said. Peters' wife and daughter were able to get out of the home safely.

The officers were taken to the hospital, and one was listed in stable condition and the other was in critical, but stable condition, McHenry County Deputy Sheriff Aimee Knop said.

A male sheriff's deputy, a seven-year veteran, underwent surgery at Condell Hospital in Libertyville after he was shot in the stomach and leg, Knop said. The other officer is a woman who is a 12-year veteran of the McHenry County Sheriff's department. She was being treated at Centegra Hospital in McHenry after she was shot in the leg.

Peters was not armed when he was taken into custody. Police were still searching for a rifle.

A third officer who was part of the initial response was not injured.

Peters, who was apparently armed with a rifle, fled the home. He was captured later not from where the original incident occurred.
