Two Men Shot In Evanston

(STMW) -- Two men were shot Thursday afternoon in north suburban Evanston.

The men, ages 35 and 51, were standing with a group on the driveway of a home in the 1700 block of Payne Street about 4 p.m. when two gunmen walked up and started shooting, according to Evanston police.

The older man, an Elgin resident, was shot in the right hip and left ankle and taken to NorthShore University HealthSystem, where he was undergoing surgery Thursday evening. His condition was not available.

The younger man, from Evanston, was shot in the left leg and taken to the same hospital, police said. His injuries weren't thought to be life-threatening.

The shooters ran away westbound on Payne, police said. They were described as two black men in their 20s, one in a black hat and black shirt and the other in a red shirt.

Evanston police ask anyone with information to call detectives at (847) 866-5000, or to text anonymous tips to CRIMES (274637) with "EPD TIP" at the start of the message.
