Two Men Shot And Killed During Robbery Attempt In Chinatown
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police were going door to door in Chinatown late Sunday, after two men were shot to death at a condominium complex in Chinatown.
As CBS 2's Mike Puccinelli reported, the shooting happened around 2:15 a.m. A man, his wife, and another man were standing in a parking lot at Tan Court and Wells Street having a conversation.
That was when police said they were approached by a gunman who demanded money.
Police said the woman complied. But the two men resisted and paid with their lives.
Witnesses said they heard at least three gun shots.
Both men were shot in the head. They were pronounced dead at the scene in the 2000 block of South Wells Street.
The men were 38 and 39 years of age.
The gunman ran away, but was apprehended a few blocks away in the 2200 block of South Princeton Avenue. Police said a weapon was also recovered.
Charges were pending late Sunday.
And even though someone was in custody Sunday night, residents were still unnerved.
One woman, who did not want to reveal her identity, did want to speak out on behalf of her community.
"I mean this, even though it happened at 2:15 in the morning, like, things like this tend to happen at, you know, 4 o'clock, 5 o'clock in the afternoon too.
One of the victims has no family here. The other leaves behind a wife and a brother.
Activists said word of the double murder is already big news in China.
