Two Men Dead After Water Rescue In Gary, Ind.

(CBS) – Two men died after five swimmers were pulled from Lake Michigan at a Gary, Ind. beach Saturday afternoon.

First-responders were called to Wells Street Beach around 2:30 p.m. for a call of several people in the water. Of the five people taken from the water, two men were pronounced dead at a local hospital, while one woman was transported in stable condition. Two others were treated at the scene, fire officials said.

Additional details were not available.

A beach hazard had been issued for Northwest Indiana. Weather officials had warned of waves up to seven feet tall and rip currents.
