Two Men Critically Wounded In Douglas Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men were critically wounded early Saturday in a Douglas neighborhood shooting on the South Side.

The men, ages 25 and 55, were shot about 3:05 a.m. while they were standing on the sidewalk in the 200 block of East 35th Street, said police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro. Another male approached the two men and, after they were involved in a verbal altercation, he produced a handgun and fired shots at them.

The 55-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and was taken in critical condition to Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, Alfaro said.

The 25-year-old man walked into Mercy Hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest, abdomen and right leg, Alfaro said. He was also listed in critical condition.

Both men were going to be transferred to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Alfaro said.

No one is in custody as Area Central detectives investigate.
