Two Killed In Wrong Way Crash In Rolling Meadows

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed in a wrong-way crash on Route 53 in northwest suburban Rolling Meadows early Tuesday.

All three northbound lanes of Route 53 were shut down for about five hours just south of the Euclid Avenue exit, after a yellow 2014 Toyota Scion headed the wrong way clipped a white 2010 Chevrolet Impala around 4 a.m.

Illinois State Police said the Toyota continued going the wrong way, and collided head-on with a white 2006 Toyota Sienna taxi cab. The cab is affiliated with American Taxi.

Police said two people died in the crash, but it was not immediately clear which vehicles they were in. The victims' names, ages, and genders have not been released.

The northbound lanes of Route 53 reopened around 9 a.m. Before that, all traffic was being diverted to Kirchoff Road.

The cause of the crash was under investigation.
