Two Killed In Fiery Tri-State Tollway Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed in a fiery rollover crash early Wednesday on the Tri-State Tollway near south suburban South Holland, police said.

The 2007 Chevrolet crashed into a toll plaza, rolled over and caught fire about 4:30 a.m. on the Halsted northbound entrance ramp to southbound I-294, according to Illinois State Police.

Two people, who were the only occupants of the car, were both pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Additional details were not available and the Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the fatalities.

As of 6:45 a.m., the entrance ramp from Halsted to southbound I-294 was closed to traffic while authorities investigated the cause of the crash.
