Two Chicago Cops Come To Aid Of Fellow Officer

(CBS) -- A Chicago Police officer is alive thanks to the quick action by two of his colleagues.

Officers Beata Staszewski and Norma Colon were reporting to work at the public safety headquarters just before 10 p.m. Saturday when a fellow officer collapsed on the floor.

"We're calling his name and started to see if he responded," said Colon.

"Started doing chest compressions," Staszewski said. "We also has an officer who applied the defibrillator to the officer who was unconscious. We were able to get the officer revived somewhat and the paramedics arrived. It was a great feeling to see him revived a little bit and having the other officers around us. We know that we did this for him and we'd do it for anyone."

The 55-year-old officer is now in stable condition. Staszewski and Colon credit their CPR training for saving his life.
