Two Charged In Shooting Of 3-Year-Old In Brighton Park

(CBS/STMW) Two men have been charged in the shooting of a three-year-old boy Friday night in Brighton Park.

Police charged 19-year-old Alger Sanchez and 22-year-old Anton Aseves, both of Chicago in the shooting that took place in the 4400 block of S. Sacramento around 10 p.m.

A three-year-old boy was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition after being wounded in the hip and stomach.

Judge James Brown ordered both men held without bond at a hearing Monday, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Stephen Campbell said.

During the hearing, prosecutors claimed that just before the shooting Sanchez got into an argument with another man about gang affiliation, Campbell said.

They started to fight, and Sanchez threw a glass bottle at the man. Sanchez then allegedly directed Aseves to start shooting, and one of the rounds fired hit the 3-year-old in the abdomen, Campbell said.

Both defendants are known gang members, Campbell said.
