Two Charged In Retail Thefts On Near North Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two 18-year-olds have been arrested on felony charges, in connection to violent thefts on the Magnificent Mile earlier this month.

Mishael Cisnersos has been charged with felony retail theft and two felony counts of aggravated battery, for a theft in the 700 block of North Michigan Avenue on Nov. 11, police said.

Dierra Bluitt has been charged with one count each of felony robbery, felony aggravated battery, and misdemeanor retail theft, for a theft in the 800 block of North Michigan Avenue on Nov. 5.

Police have said the thefts were not connected, but were similar to two other retail thefts on the Near North Side this month, in that the thieves used physical force against store employees when they were confronted about stealing merchandise.

The other two incidents included a theft in the 900 block of North State Street on Nov. 1, and a theft in the 1200 block of North Larrabee STreet on Nov. 9. Those robberies remain unsolved.

All four robberies occurred in the early or late afternoon.

Police advised store employees not to engage armed individuals, and to save any available surveillance video.
