Two Arrested After Barricade Situation At Evanston Home

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two shooting suspects were arrested after barricading themselves inside a home in north suburban Evanston for almost two hours Wednesday evening.

About 4:15 p.m., officers on patrol near Lake Street and Dodge Avenue heard gunfire coming from a block east on Darrow Avenue, according to Evanston police.

They drove there and saw two people run into a home in the 1800 block of Lake, police said.

The officers, who "could still smell gunfire in the air," were told by witnesses that the runners had been shooting at another group of people farther north on Darrow, police said. No victims were found.

Authorities surrounded the home and the two suspects — a man and a boy from Evanston whose ages weren't released — gave themselves up about 5:40 p.m., police said.

A .38-caliber handgun was found inside the home, police said.

No charges had been filed as of Wednesday night.
