Trump Chides Chicago For Volume Of Shootings
(CBS) -- Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump took special aim at Chicago -- President Obama's hometown -- while promising to restore safety and law and order if he is elected to the White House.
Trump blamed Obama for what he characterized as a spike in violence across the country since the Democrat took office.
"Decades of progress made in bringing down crime are now being reversed by this administration's rollback of criminal enforcement," Trump told delegates Thursday at the RNC in Cleveland as he accepted his party's nomination.
"In the President's hometown of Chicago, more than 2,000 people have been the victim of shootings this year alone. And almost 4,000 have been killed in the Chicago area since he took office," Trump added.
Trump is expected to square off against presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton. The Democratic National Convention begins next week in Philadelphia.
