Will County sheriff investigating triple murder of family members in Crete Township

Three people are dead in what appears to be a triple homicide in Crete Township, Illinois, the Will County Sheriff's Department said Monday morning.

The sheriff's office said they received a call around 2 a.m. for a welfare check at a home in the 3400 block of Norway Trail. When they arrived on scene, deputies found the bodies of two men and one woman.

All the victims are adults, the sheriff's office said. They are also all related: A 55-year-old man, a 54-year-old woman, and their 32-year-old son.

The sheriff's office said they believe the triple homicide started as a domestic incident, and they do not believe there is a further threat to the public.

Investigators said a 30-year-old woman fled the scene and was later found in Indiana, where she's from, and taken into custody. Deputies called her a person of interest and said charges are pending.

Neighbors who knew the family well called them wonderful people and said the news is devastating. Outreach teams went door-to-door to neighbors to provide support.

"It's real heavy. You never know what someone is going through, you know. When you see them, they're smiling at you. When the door is shut, you just don't know what's going on in a home, so it's just – it can happen to anyone. So, I just – I'm hoping to be there and put our organization out there to assist," said Sam Barnett, outreach team lead with Illinois Youth and Family Services.

The names of the victims have not yet been released. Neither has the identity of the woman in custody.
