Trial Continues For Man Accused Of Murdering Parents 9 Years Ago In Crystal Lake

(CBS) -- The trial continues today for a former north suburban man accused of murdering his parents nine years ago near Crystal Lake, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

Prosecutors said Michael Romano was deeply in debt and had talked about inheriting his parents' multimillion dollar estate before they were murdered, not knowing at the time that his father had cut him out of the his will after the son embezzled $100,000 from the construction company where both worked.

Romano was charged nearly eight years after his father, Nick, and stepmother, Gloria, were murdered execution-style in their home. He called police saying he found their bodies at 3 a.m. after both failed to answer their phones.

The prosecutors said the bullets matched those given to the son by a neighbor.

Romano's public defender noted the absence of gunshot residue, DNA or blood on the defendant and the fact that a large amount of cash and jewelry in the home was left untouched.
