UPS Truck Driver Killed In Tri-State Crash

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A UPS semi truck driver was killed when the truck crashed into a wall early Tuesday on the Tri-State Tollway in west suburban Hinsdale.

The truck tractor semi hauling a double bottom trailer was heading southbound on I-294 at milepost 26.5 near 47th Street in Hinsdale when the driver lost control and the semi left the road to the left and struck the concrete median about 2:30 a.m., according to the Illinois State Police.

The crash caused one of the two trailers to overturn and breach onto the northbound side of the tollway, police said.

The driver of the semi, 61-year-old Glen D. Dantuma, was taken to Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:02 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. He lived in the 200 block of East Loos Street in Hartford, Wisconsin.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

All lanes had reopened as of 8:20 a.m., police said. The crash remains under investigation, police said.
