Large Crash Blocks Traffic On Tri-State Tollway

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Three lanes of the the Tri-State Tollway remained blocked more than three hours after a chain reaction crash near the Eisenhower Expressway interchange.

The southbound lanes were blocked as a result of the crash on I-294 near I-290 around 7:50 a.m., according to Illinois State Police and the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Police said four passenger vehicles and a semi-trailer truck were involved in the crash. The truck was heading south in the far right lane, when it rear-ended a minivan, causing a chain reaction involving three other cars, according to state police.

Three people were taken to hospitals, one with serious injuries, police said. The other victims' injuries were not life-threatening.

IDOT said two lanes reopened around 11 a.m., but the three left lanes and the left shoulder remained blocked.
