Trestman Vague On Linebacker Situation Moving Forward

(CBS) With Bears linebackers Lance Briggs (ribs), D.J. Williams (neck), Shea McClellin (hand) and Jon Bostic (back) missing Sunday's game against the Falcons, youngsters Khaseem Greene, Darryl Sharpton and Christian Jones were tasked with manning the second level of defense.

That trio played an instrumental role in limiting Atlanta to just 42 rushing yards and played what Trestman called "relatively mistake-free" football, but the coach balked when asked Monday to compare their play to the usual starters' and about what may lie ahead.

"We only played with the guys we had yesterday," Trestman said. "I can't make that comparison because those guys didn't play yesterday."

Still, Trestman was impressed by Greene, Sharpton and Jones, who got a lot of instruction from linebackers coach Reggie Herring.

"I know there was a lot of extra time spent by Reggie with the linebackers up through Saturday and into Sunday morning to get them ready," Trestman said. "Their meetings went very well.

"It was very, very good cooperation to get it done ... We kept it manageable for them, to know what to do, where to be. And then we allowed them to just play hard and fast."

Greene led the Bears with eight tackles, while Sharpton had five and Jones registered four.

We likely won't know more details about the status of the four injured Bears linebackers until Wednesday.
