Tree Donated By Northlake Family Selected As Chicago's Official Christmas Tree
(CBS) --- The city of Chicago has announced that a tree donated by a family in Northlake, Ill. has been selected to be Chicago's 102nd Christmas Tree.
The 63-foot Colorado Blue Spruce was donated by the Voelker family. The tree was selected out of 130 submissions.
For the first time, the official city Christmas tree will be in Millennium Park after being in Daley Plaza for decades. The annual tree lighting event will take begin at 5:30 p.m. on November 24.
"For more than one hundred years, Chicagoans have gathered for the annual tree lighting ceremony to officially start the holiday season," said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. "I invite you to join me in Millennium Park together with your family and friends for this long held holiday tradition."
