Tollway Boss: Route 53 Extension Not A Done Deal

(CBS) -- The head of the Illinois Tollway says there has still been no decision on whether to go ahead with plans to extend west suburban Route 53 into Lake County.

Money is only one of the major considerations, WBBM Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports.

Tollway Director Kristi LaFleur says there's consensus among most of the affected parties on a four-lane roadway running from Lake-Cook Road North. But, she says, an advisory group is still going over financial and environmental concerns, among other issues.

LaFleur  acknowledges  the original estimated price tag for the Northern extension of Route 53 is nearly $3 billion. And she says an advisory committee of local leaders, business people and others has not given the green light to the project.

LaFleur is the guest on "At Issue" program this weekend. It runs on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.
