Toddler Shot In West Englewood

(CBS) -- A toddler was shot while playing outside in Chicago's West Englewood neighborhood Saturday afternoon.

Police say it happened around 3 p.m. near 56th and South Wolcott. The boy was playing on a sidewalk outside his house when someone fired shots, hitting the little boy in the leg.

He was not intended target. Police have not said who was.

"It's a shame that you've got a small 3 year old outside playing and you got an individual with a gun that's discharging it and you hit that child," said crisis responder Andrew Holmes. "For what? What's on your mind? what's in your conscience?"

Andrew Holmes is asking someone to come forward with information. Right now no one is in custody. The boy is at Comer Children's Hospital in stable condition.
