Police Search For Mother Of Baby Found Alone In Apartment Building

CHICAGO (STMW) --Police are searching for the mother of a baby who was found alone in an Auburn Gresham neighborhood apartment building Friday night on the South Side.

The 1-year-old girl was found about 11:30 p.m. in the vestibule of an apartment building in the 8200 block of South Justine Street, according to a community alert from Chicago Police.

The girl was identified Saturday afternoon but her name was withheld as detectives try to track down the girl's mother, police News Affairs Officer Thomas Sweeney said.

She was taken in good condition to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Center in Evergreen Park and has since been released into the custody of the state's Department of Child and Family Services, Sweeney said.

It was not immediately known how long the girl had been alone in the vestibule before she was found.
