Toddler Dies A Day After Three-Story Fall From Window

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A 3-year-old boy who fell from a third-floor window at his Irving Park home earlier this week has died from his injuries.

Mohammed Alyamani fell from the top floor of a three-flat apartment building in the 3700 block of North Kostner Avenue around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Area North detectives were conducting a death investigation, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was looking into a complaint against his mother, regarding a supervision issue.

Neighbors said Mohammed's family moved in about a month ago. They have four other children.

Dorothy Barrett, who lives down the street, said she often saw the family's children riding their bikes and playing outside, so news of Mohammed's death has been difficult to take.

"It's terrible when something such a tragic happens. I have three small children of my own, and you do the best that you can to keep tragedies like this from happening, but even the most alert parents and aware parents, these … it's just so sad," she said.
