One Worker Killed, Two Others Injured After Facade Collapses On Southwest Side

(CBS) -- One construction worker was killed and two others were injured when a building facade collapsed near Midway Airport.

WBBM's Bob Roberts reports most of the facade of the five-unit, single-story commercial building collapsed in the 6300 block of S. Keeler around 1 p.m. as a maintenance crew worked on the building.

Two workers transported in critical condition of Christ Medical Center and another was transported to Mt. Sinai in serious condition. One of the workers transported to Christ later died.

The Building Department tells WBBM the work was being performed by unlicensed contractors working without building permit.
The owners' representative was instructed to clean up the scene to remove any remaining hazards, and erect a heavy duty canopy.
