Three Injured In Auburn Gresham House Fire

(STMW) -- Two children were among three people injured in a house fire Monday morning in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood on the South Side.

Firefighters responded to the blaze about 11:15 a.m. at a home in the 8600 block of South Morgan Street, authorities said.

Good Samaritans rescued people off the roof of the building before fire crews arrived, and firefighters rescued one woman in a wheelchair who was trapped inside, according to Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford.

Two children and one adult were taken in good condition to Little Company of Mary Hospital and Health Care Centers in Evergreen Park, Langford said.

"They should be fine," he said.

Police said five people were displaced.

The fire, which was struck out in about 20 minutes, was thought to have started in the basement of the home, Langford said. The cause remains under investigation.
