Three Hurt In Crash After Police Suspend Car Chase

CHICAGO (CBS) -- After police gave up a chase that started in Bridgeport early Wednesday, three people were injured when the fleeing vehicle later crashed in River West.

About 1:30 a.m., officers on patrol tried to stop a car speeding in the 3500 block of South Halsted, according to preliminary information from police.

The officers briefly gave chase but the pursuit was terminated, police said.

Minutes later, the car crashed about five miles north on Halsted near Chicago Avenue, police said.

Three people were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with injuries that weren't thought to be life-threatening.

The 21-year-old man at the wheel was arrested and charges were pending early Wednesday.
