Two Arrested After Apparent Burglary At Mokena Construction Site

MOKENA (CBS) -- Charges were expected against two men arrested Tuesday, after a break-in at a large construction site in southwest suburban Mokena.

Mokena Police Chief Steve Vaccaro said someone broke into the Clarendale of Mokena senior housing complex on the 21500 block of South Wolf Road early Monday. The suspects caused some damage, and might have stolen tools and other materials.

Around dawn Tuesday, a Mokena police officer on patrol at the complex spotted a vehicle in the rear of the complex and called for backup.

"We were in the process of setting up a perimeter, and one subject was taken into custody," Vaccaro said.

A couple police dogs and more than two dozen officers from Mokena and neighboring suburbs spent six hours searching for the second suspect, who was believed to be hiding in the rafters of an attic of one of the units under construction.

Vaccaro said the owners of the construction site have not yet determined if anything was stolen during Monday's break-in.

"They have to conduct an inventory, and they have a lot of tools out there. They have a lot of materials, so they have to do an extensive inventory to determine what, if anything, was taken," he said.
