The World Series Marks Cleveland's Third National Event It Hosts This Year

CHICAGO (CBS) – Tuesday marks the third major national event Cleveland will host in 2016 when the Chicago Cubs take the field.

CBS 2's Rob Johnson reports on the history that makes the World Series such a big deal for the people of Northeast Ohio.

Cleveland is a city that has not hosted a World Series for 60 years. But, the city has hosted some major events this years, including, the NBA Finals in June and the Republican National Convention in July. Cleveland certainly will be able to handle hosting the World Series.

The last time Cleveland won the World Series was in 1948, when the Indians beat the braves four games to two. Back then, pictures were taken in black and white and the Braves were Boston's team.

One can imagine the demand Tuesday for Game One at Progressive Field is great, though the Indians play on the same night and just yards away from where the Cavaliers are going to raise their 2016 NBA Championship Banner, marking Cleveland's first major sports championship in 52 years.

The average sale price for a ticket to a World Series game in Cleveland is more than $1,600. That would be the highest ticker price for the Fall Classic since 2010, second behind what tickets are going for at Wrigley Field this year, about $4000 each.
