The Best, Worst Of Mid-November Weather

CHICAGO (CBS) -- This is the week when the heavy coats, gloves and mittens come out of the closet and here to stay for the next several months.

Layers are back in vogue.

Just ask CBS 2's Marissa Bailey, who knows a thing or two about staying warm. She spent a lot of time in Buffalo:

While temperatures in the 20s or 30s seem harsh, Chicago has seen some days that are much worse.

Consider the records for Nov. 11, according to the National Weather Service:

Coldest: 15 degrees in 1950

Wettest: 3.18 inches in 1881

Snowiest: 1.9 inches in 1995.

So, 30 degrees and sunny isn't so bad.

Until one realizes that it was 74 degrees--twice--in 1911 and 1964.
