The Bernstein Brief: Pernell McPhee's Making It Fun

By Dan Bernstein--

(CBS) He may be playing on one healthy leg, but Bears linebacker Pernell McPhee is in fine form with a microphone in front of him.

The plain-spoken Floridian is a delightful antidote to his coach, there's no doubt. While John Fox sputters gobbledygook, McPhee gives us colorful, pithy gems in his signature baritone drawl.

"We just need to hit his ass," McPhee said when asked about how to stop Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.  "Hit the quarterback and win the game. That's it. And then go eat us some turkey dinner. Happy Thanksgiving."

As it was for them, indeed.

Then Monday, McPhee shot back at what he perceived was a slight from Rodgers when the latter described how much fun it was to beat the rival Bears.

"We went in there and we slapped him on his ass," McPhee said. "They need to go ask them how that feels."

One of the reasons to hope McPhee can keep going despite an ongoing knee problem is to make sure reporters can keep talking to him. It's a delight.
