The Bernstein Brief: Illinois Must Act On Kendrick Nunn

By Dan Bernstein--

(CBS) Illinois athletic director Josh Whitman has an interesting definition of "intolerable."

Here's what he told the News-Gazette when asked about charges against three basketball players: "If the allegations prove true, there is no place in our athletic program for domestic violence. It is an intolerable offense."

So much so, apparently, that Kendrick Nunn remains a member of the Illini in good standing, even after recently pleading guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge stemming from an incident with a woman in March.

Internal discussions remain ongoing and a group of trustees continues to push for Nunn's dismissal from the team, sources told 670 The Score. That they haven't succeeded in accomplishing this yet is ample evidence that there are some involved who believe otherwise. For now, he remains indefinitely suspended.

This shouldn't take time. This should have been done, already. Whitman and the University of Illinois are tolerating domestic violence as long as Nunn is theirs in any way.
