The Bagel is returning to Chicago's northern suburbs

The Bagel, a beloved Chicago-area deli, is returning to the north suburbs.

Owner Marvin Barsky confirmed plans to open a new location in downtown Glenview near the Metra stop. The restaurant will be on the first floor of a new apartment building at 1850 Glenview Road. 

It is not clear when the new restaurant location will open. 

This comes eight years after owners closed Skokie's iconic Old Orchard restaurant after over 30 years in business. The owner will keep its Lakeview restaurant on Broadway. 

Elsa and Chaim Golenzer originally opened The Bagel in 1950 at Kedzie and Lawrence avenues, after surviving the Holocaust. Their grandson, Dan Wolf became a longtime owner of The Bagel on Broadway. 

Barsky says he is excited to continue their legacy.
