Teen Shot, Killed In Austin
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A 17-year-old boy was shot and killed in the Austin neighborhood Wednesday night.
About 9:25 p.m., Demond Avant was standing on the sidewalk in the 600 block of North Mayfield Avenue when someone got out of a nearby van and opened fire, striking him in the head, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Avant, of the 1000 block of North Monitor, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
