Teen Charged With Murder In December Slaying

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A teenage boy has been charged with murder in connection to a shooting late last year that left one man dead and another seriously wounded in the South Shore neighborhood.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested Thursday and charged with first-degree murder, according to a statement from police. His identity has been withheld because he is charged as a juvenile.

About 12:20 p.m. on Dec. 10, 2013, two men were standing on the street in the 7000 block of South Paxton Avenue when the teenager opened fire, police said.

Deonte Womack, 21, who lived less than two blocks away from where he was shot, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The other man, 22, was taken to Northwestern in serious condition, police said.

The 17-year-old was arrested by officers from the U.S. Marshal Great Lakes Task Force on Thursday, police said.

In addition to the murder charge, the teenager faces one count of aggravated battery with a firearm as well as a parole violation.
