Teen Charged With Accidental Shooting That Killed 14-Year-Old Girl On West Side

(STMW) -- A teenage boy has been charged as a juvenile after a 14-year-old girl was shot to death while they were playing with a handgun Wednesday afternoon on the West Side, police said.

The 17-year-old boy faces a count of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting that happened about 2:15 p.m. inside a home in the 700 block of North Homan, according to Chicago Police. His name was withheld because he is a minor.

He and the girl, Tracy Davis, had been playing with the gun when it went off and struck her in the head, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Davis, of the 4400 block of West Adams, was dead at the scene. Detectives recovered the weapon, police said.

The boy ran way after the shooting but later made arrangements to turn himself in, police said.

He is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.
