Teen Charged In Fatal Humboldt Park Shooting

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A teenager has been charged with fatally shooting a 16-year-old boy earlier this year in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

Jeremiah Nieves, 17, of the 1300 block of North Monticello, faces one count of first-degree murder, according to the Cook County state's attorney's office.

About 10:10 p.m. on Feb. 10, officers responding to a call of shots fired in the 1600 block of North Keeler found Jorge Ruiz shot several times in an alley, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Ruiz, who lived a block away in the 1700 block of North Keeler, was dead at the scene, authorities said.

At the time, police said the shooting may have been gang-related.

Nieves, who was charged as an adult, was ordered held without bail Saturday.
