Teen, 16, Charged In Shooting Of 7-Year-Old

 (CBS) – A 16-year-old boy has been charged in connection with the shooting of a 7-year-old child earlier this week, Chicago police said Thursday.

The teen suspect was charged with one felony count of aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, police said. The juvenile was not identified.

The 7-year-old victim sustained a gunshot wound to the shoulder while walking in the 1300 block of W. 109th Place around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. The child was taken to Comer's Children Hospital in stable condition.

Community activist Andrew Holmes has said the victim, identified as Elijah Dace, was ambushed by a group of gunmen who were hiding on the side of a garage. The boy had been walking with other young people.
