Taxi Drivers Robbed In Austin, West Garfield Park

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Police are warning cab drivers of a series of robberies over the past week in the West Garfield Park and Austin neighborhoods on the West Side.

In three robberies, suspects "used force and threat of force" to take cell phones, wallets and money from drivers, according to a community alert from Chicago Police. In one incident, the robbers were armed with a knife.

The robberies occurred:

• at 7:55 p.m. Nov. 28 in the 300 block of South Kilbourn Avenue;
• at 11:10 p.m. Nov. 28 in the 300 block of North Karlov Avenue; and
• at 7:40 p.m. Nov. 30 in the 300 block of North Cicero Avenue.

The first suspect is described as a 20-year-old black male, between 5-foot-8 and 6-foot and 160 pounds with a dark complexion.

Another suspect is described as a black man, between 25 and 30 years old, standing between 5-foot-10 and 6-foot-2, and weighing between 260 and 300 pounds with a medium complexion.

The final suspect is described as a black man, between 20 and 25 years old, standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 180 pounds, police said.
