Taste Of Chicago To Feature 19 New Restaurants, Food Trucks

(CBS) -- This summer's Taste of Chicago is featuring 19 restaurants that are new to Taste. WBBM's Steve Miller has a preview of one newcomer.

"We think food should be messy. That's how I like it," said Rebecca VanderKloot is the owner and head chef of Puffs of Doom.

"We thought Puffs of Doom was a great way to sort of say this is great comfort food, but it's so good it's bad."

VanderKloot and Puffs of Doom are celebrating their fourth anniversary this summer.

VanderKloot makes sweet and savory non-traditional cream puffs.

"The concept, the name, the logo all happened on my 30th birthday. I made a couple hundred cream puffs just for my guests. And they were eaten in, like, five or seven minutes.

"So everyone was like, 'You guys should, you should do this. You should sell these.'

"By the end of the night, I had a business."

The other new restaurants and food trucks are: Bruges Brothers, Burger Bar Chicago, The Crave Bar, Dia De Los Tamales, Dinky Donuts, Inc., DönerMen, Emerald Isle, Farmer's Fridge, Haire's Gulf Shrimp, Jack's Fork in the Road, La Bomba Restaurant, La Cocinita, La Mexicana, Luke's Lobster, Miller's Pub, Old Crow Smokehouse, Sono Wood Fired and Yum Dum.

The Taste will have a total of 60 restaurants and takes place July 8-12 in Grant Park. For the full list, visit the city of Chicago website.
