Lucas Museum On The Lake? Tailgaters Would Prefer Grilling Space
(CBS) -- Fans tailgating at Friday's Bears-Eagles exhibition opener said predictably they're not pleased with Mayor Rahm Emanuel's plans for a George Lucas museum that would be built on the parking lots where they congregate before games.
One fan said you can't fight City Hall and added, shrugging, that Emanuel gets "pretty much whatever he wants."
But other tailgaters said it would be a sacrilege to put a museum between Soldier Field and McCormick Place, where they currently set up their grills, cook their burgers, brats and hot dogs, toast the Bears and put on their game faces.
One even suggested building the Lucas museum underground and leaving the parking lots above ground.
Lucas chose the site in part because of its view of Lake Michigan. The welcome mat extended to Lucas and the museum could be pulled out from under them in court.
One 40-year season ticket holder says the city should have put a retractable roof atop Soldier Field when it was rebuilt. He thinks the city will botch the Lucas museum, too.
