Riverside Police Investigating Swastikas Spray-Painted On Home Under Construction

(CBS) -- Police in suburban Riverside are asking for your help in solving a possible hate crime, reports WBBM's Dave Berner.

It was Christmas morning when neighbors along the 300 block of Lionel in the west suburb noticed all of the windows in a home under construction had been spray painted with swastikas.

Riverside Police Chief Tom Weitzel says a family of Indian descent was working with a contractor to possibly buy the home. He says someone apparently didn't like that.

"It's possibly a hate crime because every single window in the home was painted inside the home," Weitzel said.

The vandals used construction ladders to get to some of the windows. Also, the paint used was purple, and a lot of it was used. Police hope someone might have seen someone else buying lots of purple paint.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Jim Lazansky at 708-447-2127.
