Two Suspects In Custody After Elderly Woman Injured In Lakeview Home Invasion

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two suspects are in custody after police say they terrorized an elderly woman during a home invasion in the Lakeview neighborhood.

Police say they beat the 77-year-old woman after breaking into her home on North Magnolia around 6 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found the woman lying on her kitchen floor with head and face trauma.

A family member says the burglars broke in through a rear door and stole personal belongings and the woman's car.

Police say the burglars later crashed the car on the Dan Ryan Expressway and ran off.

They were later caught by Chicago Police.

The victim's nephew says the family is grateful she's alive.

"They did beat her up pretty bad and we're very concerned but she's holding her own, she's conscious and she's aware of who we are, her family and stuff. She knows we're there for her and we love her," said Joseph Calli. "We're just praying for her to get well soon."

The victim's nephew says his aunt's neighbors called 911 when they heard a commotion.
