Suspect Wounded In Police-Involved Shooting On West Side

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicago Police officers were involved in a shooting overnight on the West Side, reports WBBM's Mike Krauser.

Chicago Police say the officers were on patrol in the Austin neighborhood near Cicero and Jackson and saw a car speeding away. They gave chase and pulled the car over.

Pat Camden of the FOP says a man believed to be in his 20s jumped out the passenger side door and pointed a handgun at the officers. One of them fired at the suspect who rand own an alley.

Camden says there was a foot chase and after about a block the man again pointed a gun at the officer. The officer shot the man in the arm and leg, which are non-life threatening wounds. The suspect continued running a short distance and was taken into custody.

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating.
