Suspect Threatens To Lure Cops To Booby-Trapped Home, Police Say

(CBS) -- Police evacuated homes and businesses in north suburban Wauconda Thursday night because of a report that a home on the 400 block of Lakeshore Boulevard had explosives inside.

Police reported, on the department's Facebook page, that a search warrant was obtained, a suspect was taken into custody and the Illinois state police SWAT team and Wauconda bomb squad were called in to take part in the search.

Police said they acted after receiving a tip that the suspect told a worker at a local business that he wanted to lure police to his home with the intention of blowing them up.

The suspect allegedly told the tipster that he is terminally ill and hates politicians and the police.

As a result, Illinois 176 was closed between Main Street and Fairfield Road as well as the following intersections: Mill Street and 176, Lakeshore Boulevard and 176, Lakeshore and Hill, and Highland and Clearview Avenues.

Shelter was provided at the Federated Church and police assisted those who need help to evacuate the area.
