Suspect Charged With Beating Tennessee Man To Death

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man has been charged with beating a Tennessee man to death in the South Side Park Manor neighborhood in March.

Aaron Smith, 28, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 27-year-old Anthony Morris, according to Chicago Police.

Morris, of Jackson, Tenn., was found unresponsive and bleeding in the 7000 block of South Vincennes Avenue about 1:30 p.m. on March 26, authorities said at the time.

He was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he died on April 3, more than a week later, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

An autopsy found he died of complications from head and brain injuries caused by being struck on the head, the medical examiner's office said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Police did not provide a motive for the murder.

Smith, of the 6500 block of South Washtenaw, is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
