Surging NIU Beats Toledo, 58-49

DEKALB, Ill. (AP) -- Travon Baker hit six 3-pointers and scored 21 points and Northern Illinois continued its best start in 15 years with a 58-49 win over Toledo on Friday night.

Aaric Armstead and Levi Bradley added 12 points for the Huskies (16-3, 5-1 Mid-American), who have their best start to a season since the 1990-91 team went 17-2.

Nathan Boothe had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Rockets (12-7, 3-3).

Baker had four 3s and 12 points in the first half when the Huskies erased a nine-point deficit to take a 29-27 lead.

Toledo never caught the Huskies in the second half. A 3-pointer by Bradley put NIU up by nine with 12:52 to play, but Jaelan Sanford and Boothe had threes as the Rockets quickly got it back to two. Back-to-back threes by Baker pushed the lead to 49-38 with 4:37 left and the Huskies hit seven of eight free throws to secure the win.
