Summer Scorcher Brings Ideal Beach Weather

CHICAGO (CBS) -- With temperatures likely reaching 90 degrees for the only the third time this year – and the first time this summer – Tuesday should be a perfect day to hit the beach.

CBS 2's Marissa Bailey reports the warm, sunny conditions Tuesday morning made for a beautiful summer day at North Avenue Beach. Whether people were lounging in the sun, cycling on the Lakefront Trail, playing football on the beach, or paddle boarding on the lake, lots of people have waited a long time for the summer heat.

With Tuesday possibly turning into the hottest day of the year, beachgoers said it's all about keeping cool.

Alonzo Salgado, of Elmwood Park, said the best part of burying himself in the sand on a hot summer day was "you're cold and out of the sun."

As he lounged on a beach blanket, Don Preusser of Oak Lawn clearly wasn't pining for the days of the polar vortex.

"This is a little better, especially if you're by the beach," he said. "If you're sitting outside working, I feel sorry for you guys."

For anyone taking advantage of the arrival of real summer weather, it's important to remember to wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water, and know your limits if you'll be heading outside.
