Suit: Woman Hit With Axe At A Polish Dance Performance

(STMW) -- A woman has filed a lawsuit against a local performing arts company, claiming she was hit with a rogue axe head while attending a performance in west suburban River Forest in December.

Helen Rozanski says she was at a performance held by The Lira Ensemble — a professional performing arts organization specializing in Polish music, song and dance, according to their website — when an axe went flying, according to a suit filed Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court.

The performance was held at the Dominican University Performing Arts Center at 7900 W. Division St. in River Forest in December 2013, the suit states.

The dance performance involved the "tossing and hitting together of real axes," which caused an axe head to fly into the audience, striking Rozanski in the head and causing her "severe injury," the suit states.

The suit, which names The Lira Ensemble as a defendant, claims negligence and seeks an unspecified amount in damages.

The Lira Ensemble could not be immediately reached for comment.
