Suburban High School Has Sod Story To Tell After Football Field Is Ruined

(CBS) -- A high school football team's playing field is missing something critical: grass.

The grounds crew at St. Edward High in Elgin apparently put down weed killer instead of fertilizer and killed most of the surface.

CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports on how the school is trying to fix it.

"It's heartbreak," head coach Mike Rolando says.

The cost to replace the sod is a whopping $200,000. A Gofundme page has already raised more than $12,000.

Friday night's game has been moved to Immaculate Conception in Elmhurst.

In the meantime, St. Edward is working with a contractor and others to find a remedy.
