Suburban Couple Turns Wedding Into Toy Drive For Needy Kids

(CBS) -- Two car loads of toys have been delivered to the Salvation Army in Crystal Lake thanks to a newlywed couple who asked for gifts for the needy instead of wedding presents.

Instead of new toasters and towels, guests to Dana Guardyak and Mark Katz' wedding brought new unwrapped toys to go to needy kids in McHenry County. The couple contacted the Salvation Army a few weeks ago saying they already had everything they need and wanted to know if they could hold a toy drive for them instead. The answer was yes.

"Every one toy that is brought in is going to touch a child's life," West said.

West says the gifts will make a big dent in the need this year. They're hoping to provide Christmas for over 600 local families.
