Students Host Unity Rally In Naperville
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Four-hundred students and west suburbanites took part in a post-election unity rally Friday on the North Central College campus, in Naperville.
Signs read "Unity, not hate," and organizers called the rally a "march on love." WBBM's Bob Roberts reports.
But many misgivings were aired at the 45-minute rally. Students spoke about fear of discrimination on the basis of religion, sexual preference and legal status.
Openly gay North Central sophomore Tommy Verdala said he does not know what to expect from a Trump administration, especially from Trump's running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence.
Junior Kaitlin Roydal said she has many misgivings but decided she did not have time for fear to become hate.
The College Democrats sponsored the rally, but club President Kevin Oyakawa said he and the club have received compliments from campus conservatives for their effort to dial down campus tensions.
